AELTC's proposed industrial tennis complex will be devastating for the Heritage Parkland and the insects, birds and animals that call it home.
The proposed development will result in the:
destruction of Metropolitan Open Land
digging up of an entire golf course
felling of hundreds of trees
loss of carbon capture
destruction of Priority Habitats and Irreplaceable Habitat
compromise of breeding birds, bats, badgers, fish and numerous other species of insects and fungi
40,000 lorry movements
air pollution during 8 years of construction.
To quote Merton's Planning Case Officer's report: "Harm is identified in relation to a number of heritage assets" and "Officers identify from the outset that there would be harm to MOL [Metropolitan Open Land, the urban equivalent of Green Belt]".
The attached document addresses the impacts upon the ancient parkland; trees and woodlands; destruction of soil and grassland; lorry movements and pollution; concrete; lake water and silt; wildlife and biodiversity net loss; and, comments upon a report commissioned by the London Borough of Merton.
