At hustings for the GLA elections on 2 May, Save Wimbledon Park members asked the GLA Merton and Wandsworth constituency candidates whether they would advise the Deputy Mayor to decide For or Against the AELTC planning application for Wimbledon Park. The unanimous response was “Against”. Leonie Cooper, current assembly Member and Chair of the GLA Environment Committee said “It is not a proposal I can support” and “I am publicly against building on Metropolitan Open Land (MOL) around London.”.
